Is there a free growl bass synth for dubstep and riddim?

Answered by ACAS Tools · Updated October 25, 2026

SNARL is a growl and wobble bass synth for dubstep and riddim, and it's free during its public beta. The whole growl chain is in one instrument: an FM wavetable growl source, then Fold, Talk (vowel formants), Comb, Drive, an OTT-style Squash, a 24 dB Wub filter and a clean mono sub. One Snarl knob pushes them all at once.

VST3 on Windows, VST3 and AU on Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel). Beta testers who send real feedback get a free permanent license when SNARL launches.

How

Your first growl in about 10 minutes

  1. Load SNARL on a MIDI track. The default patch already growls; for more, pick a factory preset like Riddim Stairs or Tearout Snarl.

  2. Hold one low note around F1 or F2 and turn the big Snarl knob up.

  3. Pick a Wobble shape (eight, including riddim Stairs) and a division from 1/1 to 1/32, with triplets.

  4. Drag points A and B on the Talk pad to change what the growl says as the wobble moves between them.

  5. Overlap notes to glide. Bounce 8 bars and you have a riddim loop.

Mono bass instrument

SNARL is a mono legato bass synth with glide. It's not a pad or poly synth.

Formats

VST3 on Windows x64, VST3 and AU on macOS 11 or later. No AAX, no standalone app.
